Dorchester Conference 2012
OFIR attended the Dorchester conference again this year. Your donations enable OFIR to participate in events like this and many others where we share information about the issue of illegal immigration. Our goal is to educate people from across the state, encourage them to get involved and motivate them to take action on this issue. Displaying photos of OFIR President Cynthia Kendoll's recent tour of the Arizona/Mexico border was a great conversation starter at the conference.

Border security is a multi-faceted undertaking
CIS tour group was shown the wide variety of tools, besides the fence, used by law enforcement to secure our border.
Many law enforcement officers told us that drug cartels and human smugglers that cross our border illegally often have better equipment and technology than they do. "We zig, they zag"...it's an everchanging game of cat and mouse.

The true cost of illegal immigration
The CIS tour group was taken to restricted locations not normally visited by tourists. The destruction of the environment, the piles of garbage, the utter disregard for the land and wildlife in the area was sickening. Cars, bikes, tires, gas cans, back packs by the thousands, black water bottles and black plastic bags (not detected by aircraft), clothes, dirty diapers, used tampons and much more are all left behind in "lay up" areas when illegal aliens catch their ride to their new life in the U.S. Tons and tons of garbage have been cleaned up by volunteers. Sadly, there is much, much more in new lay up areas found all the time.
Question: Where is the outrage from the environmentalists?

Three staff members from CIS and 6 people from every corner of the country were selected to tour the border from Yuma to Tucson behind the scenes with officials from Border Patrol, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Tohono O'odham Nation Law Enforcement and other representatives, Arizona's Bureau of Land Management's Chief Ranger and many others who shared detailed information about the problems they encounter on a daily basis. The indepth study was designed to give group members a deeper look into what is really happening on the border beyond the hyperbole and news sound bites.
